Malar: Return food coupons to PKR MP or I will make report to cops

-

SEREMBAN: Independent candidate Malar Rajaram is urging the five primary schools that received food coupons from PKR’s Miri MP Dr Michael Teo Yu Keng to return them by next Monday.

She said she would lodge a police report against the schools for receiving the coupons should they fail to do so.

“Taking the contribution is an offence.

“Return them or I will return to the police station and make a report against the schools for taking contributions from a political party during an election,” she said at the Seremban district police headquarters yesterday.

The 51-year-old former radio host was at the police headquarters to lodge a report against Dr Teo for distributing food coupons worth RM75,000 to 300 underprivileged students.

The five schools are SJKC Sin Min Kuala Sawah, SJKT Ladang Kombok, SJKT Rantau, SK Sendayan and SK Siliau.

The coupons were reported to have been handed over to the schools on March 28, two days before the nomination day.

Dr Teo was reported as saying that he had carried out a similar programme in his constituency and decided to bring it to Rantau at the request of Pakatan candidate Dr S. Streram.

Malar, however, said giving out the coupons was a clear election offence and decided to take action since no other parties involved in the by-election, including Barisan Nasional, seemed keen to act on the matter.

“I don’t think Barisan or Pakatan Harapan would make any police report.

“Waking up this morning, I realise that it is my responsibility to make the police report.

“Even the Election Commission has encouraged individuals to come forward with a police report on the food coupon matter,” she said.
