Hats off to Genting for returning as LTdL sponsors

PUTRAJAYA: After a lapse of four years, Genting Malaysia Berhad has returned as the main sponsor for the 24th edition of the Le Tour de Langkawi (LTdL) cycling championsh­ip which begins tomorrow.

For the 2019 edition, Genting is sponsoring RM1mil in cash and kind. It has been sponsor for 18th editions since the inception of the event in 1996 and have provided RM13 mil to make the annual internatio­nal cycling event a roaring success.

Steven Sim Chee Keong, deputy Youth and Sports Minister, witnessed the sponsorshi­p signing ceremony between Datuk Ahmad Mustafa, the LTdL chief executive officer and Datuk Seri Kay, vice-president of corporate relations and communicat­ions of Genting Malaysia Berhad yesterday.

Kay said Genting has returned as sponsor after completing a few other commitment­s.

“Genting Malaysia is proud to be associated with a renowned internatio­nal race such as the Le Tour de Langkawi. After a four-year interval, we are happy to once again host the queen stage of the race at Resorts World Genting.

“We are proud to note that usually the winner of the Genting stage will most likely be the overall race winner,” said Kay, who welcomes everyone to Resorts World Genting to see Stage Four of the race on April 9.

Meanwhile, Ahmad said LTdL are happy that Genting would sponsor LTdL for three years from 2019 to 2021.

“This is great boost for the LTdL, which is one of the top Tours in this region. We are also happy that one of the stages of the race is in Genting Highlands which is a great attraction and known worldwide especially among the riders who have been through the tough climb that reaches over 1,700m.

“Genting Highlands has the best mountain route and riders from Europe, South America and Asia acknowledg­ed this fact,” said Ahmad.

Steven Sim said that he is happy that Langkawi would be back to stage the LTdL after a lapse of three years.

“The riders can enjoy the beauty of Langkawi Island. It will be a challengin­g race and we hope all the 132 riders from 22 teams will perform their best to make this year’s LTdL more exciting and interestin­g,” said Steven.
