Yee Fatt to City boys: Be tough when going gets tough
PETALING JAYA: When the going gets tough, the tough get going.
Even though Kuala Lumpur are bottom in the league with seven points, there has been a surge in form from the City Boys lately.
In the Super League, they lost their first six matches before pulling up their socks to beat PKNS 2-1. Since then, they have drawn with Felda United 1-1 and defeated Petaling Jaya City 1-0 on Saturday.
They also had a fantastic run in the FA Cup. They brushed aside M3 side Tun Razak 3-0 and Penang 4-2 to qualify for the quarter-finals.
The string of good results certainly bodes well for KL and coach Chong Yee Fatt is glad his boys are finally living up to expectations.
Buoyed by their win at home, they are hopeful of continuing their streak at the Kuala Lumpur Football Stadium against embattled Perak today.
However, Yee Fatt is worried that his players might be tired as some of them have played three games within a week.
“I am not concerned about the opponents. I am more worried whether my players will be in peak condition for the match,” said the former Perak assistant coach.
“Mentally, they are prepared, but physically, I can see it’s beginning to take a toll on them.
“I might bring on some new players for this game. I have to tinker with the squad if we want to do well.”
Perak are going through a crisis as they have collected only nine points from as many matches. They have won one, drawn six and lost two.
The Seladang fans are growing impatient with the team’s lackadaisical form and a defeat against a bottom team could see coach Mehmet Durakovic’s position in jeopardy.
However, Yee Fatt said never to underestimate Perak.
“I have worked with some of the boys before. Most of them have played together for a long time, they have vast experience.
“For us, we’re going for maximum points to get us out of our predicament.”
