‘Upper class’ folk behind Parti Bangsa Johor

-

JOHOR BARU: Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia has claimed that the “upper classes” are behind the formation of a new political party known as Parti Bangsa Johor.

State Bersatu chairman Mazlan Bujang said if it is true, the new party will provide an opportunity for the elites to understand the people’s plight, who have to face many challenges, including economic pressure.

“In the new Malaysia, we welcome this new political party Parti Bangsa Johor that I hear are made up of members of the upper classes.

“Once these people enter politics, they will soon understand the problems facing the rakyat who are facing economic difficulties,” he said, adding that otherwise, the upper class community will not know the economic challenges faced by ordinary people.

Mazlan, who is also Puteri Wangsa assemblyman, was speaking to reporters after attending Universiti Teknologi Malaysia Azman Hashim International Business School programme here yesterday.

He said it is not easy to become a leader of the rakyat as the person will face tremendous challenges and obstacles throughout his career.

Mazlan was asked to comment on a news report from a portal that a Johor-based political party will be formed with the aim to ensure that the state’s affairs is run without the interference of the federal government.

The portal, quoting sources, reported that the suggestion for the party came about following several meetings in the past two months, which was said to involve politicians and members of civil society movements in Johor.

It was reported that Tunku Temenggong Johor Tunku Idris Iskandar had hinted on social media that he might join politics soon.

He posted an Instagram story of a poll, which said 75% of respondents wanted him to contest in Muar and 25% chose Mersing.
