Essay competition on role of youth in nation building
UCSI University will be hosting the 2019 National Essay Writing Competition for final year secondary school students to showcase their English language writing skills.
Held in conjunction with the 62nd Merdeka Day celebration, it is to encourage students to reflect and write on the role of youth in nation building.
This initiative by UCSI’s Centre for Languages (CFL) is open to students sitting for the SPM, STPM, O-Level, and UEC examinations this year.
“Five winners will be selected from this competition.
“They will receive cash prizes of up to RM1,000, books, shopping vouchers and UCSI University tuition fee waivers of up to RM10,000.
“This competition aims to inculcate the love for writing English compositions, and encourage young people to take a keen interest in community and national affairs, reflect and write about them on a national platform we now provide,” said CFL director Margaret Soo.
All entries must be inspiring and should incorporate a persuasive call to action on issues discussed.
The winners will be invited to attend a grand prize-giving ceremony at UCSI University on Aug 2, where the top three will be required to speak about their essays and the inspiration that led them to their work.
The competition will be held from May 1 to July 15.
