SEGi providing RM3mil via its Skill Academic Grant

-

THE SEGi Group of Colleges (SGC) presented the SEGi Skill Academic Grant (SAG) worth RM1mil to students from the B40 category in its first SAG Award ceremony held at SEGi College Subang Jaya recently.

The assistance was made possible with the help of SEGi’s partners and friends, and is aimed at levelling the playing field for the less privileged and provide them with equal opportunities to attain high-quality academic and skills qualifications.

Acknowledging the need for young professionals with industry-relevant skills in line with the government initiative to review the Technical and Vocational Education Training (TVET) to enhance youth employability, SEGi developed the SAG, offering both skills training and academic qualifications-based programmes.

This is to ensure its students pick up relevant technical or vocational skills in order to compete in the job market.

To ensure that youths from the rural and low-income B40 households are not left out from this opportunity, SEGi will provide financial assistance through SAG, worth RM3mil in total, starting this year.

These students will have better employment opportunities through technical skills and academic qualifications on completing their SAG programmes.

SEGi had been working and will continue to work with the government and non-governmental organisations, state assemblymen and members of parliament, to identify SPM graduates and UEC school leavers from the B40 category who will benefit the most from the grant.

SEGi SAG offers diploma programmes such as Diploma in Business Administration, Hotel Management, Interior Architecture, and Culinary Arts.

SEGi Group of Colleges chief executive officer Dr Lisa Tan said that the SAG award will help youths from the rural and low-income households to acquire academic qualifications and at the same time, gain valuable skills training that will enhance their employability.

“Through this grant, students would be able to study at selected SEGi Colleges and undergo skills training with our industry partners and gain valuable experience that will boost their employability or attain better career progression.

“Education, as they say, is a passport to own your future, and it is our hope that the grants we are giving will allow these young Malaysians to secure a bright and prosperous future,” added Dr Tan.

Mohammad Syukry Muhammad Sabri from the Petaling Utama District Education Office attended the event on behalf of Mohammad Jamal Ujang. Entrepreneur, author and motivator Zhariff Afandi gave an inspiring talk on “Pathway to Purpose”.
