Exhausted Japanese man strangles grandma

A MAN in Zama city, Japan, strangled his 90-year-old grandmothe­r at her house because it was too tiring to care for her, reported China Press.

On Sunday morning, the mother of 29-year-old Takuro Yamaguchi went to the old woman’s house and found her unconsciou­s in a room. She then alerted the police. The grandmothe­r, Hideko Hashimoto, was rushed to hospital, where she remains in critical condition.

Police subsequent­ly arrested Yamaguchi who admitted to the crime.

It is learnt that Yamaguchi had been helping his mother to take care of Hashimoto, who lives alone.

> The daily also reported that a woman was crowned the champion in a durian eating contest after chomping down 4.1kg of durian in two hours 53 minutes in Chon Buri, Thailand.

Nathani, 40, became the first person to win the contest on Saturday, which was organised by a durian seller. The petite woman walked away with 5,500 baht (RM713).

The contest required challenger­s to finish eating 4kg of durian within three hours.

Those who failed the challenge would have to pay for the fruit they ate at 350 baht (RM45) per kg, plus another 1,000 baht (RM129) in surcharge for peeling.

> Oriental Daily reported that a boy died after he got his head wedged between two glass doors at a library in Shaoyang city, Hunan, China.

The Labour Day incident saw the boy playing with a girl near the glass doors about noon before getting his head trapped in the narrow gap between the hinges.

The girl tried to free him by pushing the doors. However, the doors jammed, causing greater pressure on his neck.

Eventually, firemen had to be called in to free the boy, who later succumbed to his injuries.
