Sathia backs Olusegun to gundown Red Giant’s opponents

PETALING JAYA: Ifedayo Olusegun should not be seen as a “miracle worker”.

Selangor coach B. Sathianathan is glad to work with the mercurial Nigerian again after the former Melaka and Felda United striker signed a deal with the Red Giants to bolster their attack.

However, Sathianathan stressed the team cannot rely just on him as he wants his other players to give their best in the next 10 matches of the Super League.

“I hope he can help us out in the remaining 10 matches. We do not have Endrick (Santos) and Rufino (Segovia) due to injuries, so we believe Ifedayo is the right man to help us out,” said Sathianathan.

“We cannot depend on him alone. Ifedayo is not a miracle worker. He adds more depth into the team and I believe his experience playing in the Malaysian League augurs well for us.

“I worked with him in Felda United and he will be the right fit for us at the moment.”

Olesugun will certainly be a fearful foe to many defenders in the Malaysian League as he scored nine goals in 17 games for Felda United in 2017 and was a sensation for Melaka with 14 goals in 15 games last year.

With Rufino out with a knee injury, Olesugun is expected to lead the line for Selangor and fans would surely hope that the 28-year-old can replicate his Melaka form with the Red Giants.

When asked who will be replaced by Olesugun, Sathianathan said they have a month to decide.

“We are waiting for Endrick’s full recovery while Rufino has a twoyear contract with us. Rufino is expected to be back in a month or two, so we have a month to decide on who will be replaced.”

The other foreign players in Selangor are Michal Nguyen, Taylor Regan and Sandro Mendonca.

The current top scorer in the team is Sandro, who has scored four goals in seven matches.

There will be no further signings as Sathianathan is happy to work with the current squad.

Selangor are fourth in the league with 18 points and have set their sights on a top three finish in the Super League.
