Desperate coach Zainal recalls Milunovic to beef up squad

-

PETALING JAYA: Melaka have quickly acted to remedy the “Liridon Krasniqi” crisis.

The Kosovan, who has missed several matches in the Super League due to a mysterious injury, has been replaced by Serbian Luka Milunovic.

The 26-year-old was recalled from his loan stint with Premier League side Sabah.

In desperate need for a playmaker and a goalscorer, Melaka coach Zainal Abidin Hassan had to make the tough decision to replace the enigmatic Krasniqi.

“Liridon is trying his best to recover but we cannot wait too long. That is why we have decided to bring back Luka,” said Zainal.

“Luka comes with much experience playing in Europe and he is someone who can come up with crisp passes.

“He was with us during the pre-season and players are quite close to him. He will bring solidity for us in the middle of the park.”

Melaka are also on the lookout for new signings to beef up the team since the second second transfer window opend on May 2.

Zainal said many players in the squad especially Brazilian striker Casagrande have to buck up if they want to keep their spot in the team.

However, the former Penang and Pahang coach said the decision of changing players is in the hands of the team management.

“Right now, we have a problem scoring goals. So many chances were created but we cannot hit the back of the net regularly.

“If we want to make an impact in the league, the players must address these issues. I have spoken to Casagrande and he has to improve his game.

“He is a quality player but as a striker, I expect more goals from him. I have some ideas in mind but at the end of the day, the management will decide if they want to change players.”

In the Super League, the Mousedeers have so far scored 13 goals in 12 matches. They are currently sixth in the league with 16 points.

The team’s Super League top scorer is Filipino international Patrick Reichelt, who has scored five goals. Casagrande, who is supposed to be the team’s main striker, has only scored two goals in 11 league matches.
