Tamil oratory workshop for high school students

-

THE Indian Athma Sakthi Association Malaysia recently hosted the eighth annual Vivatha Kalam oratory workshop for high school students, Malaysia Nanban reported.

President of the Klang-based association, Vasanthakumar, said many Indian students stopped taking Tamil for SPM and STPM.

One of the main reasons for this was said to be a lack of stimulating Tamil language-based activities for them to do secondary school.

The association also conducts similar activities and competitions for secondary school and university students, said Vasanthakumar.

The workshop was conducted at the association’s premises in Klang with the assistance of SJK (T) Watson’s headmaster S. Tamilarasu.

The students received training in public speaking, poetry recitation, Thirukkural recitation and debate.

> Twelve people have died in the south Indian state of Andhra Pradesh due to the current extreme summer heat, Makkal Osai reported.

With temperatures hitting 46.9°C, the state government stepped up efforts to lessen casualties including warnings and distributing 700,000 oral rehydration packets.

Six people died in the Godavari district, and over 340 received treatment for heat stroke and dehydration.
