She’s waited Soo long – Bang finally in BWF Hall of Fame

PETALING JAYA: South Korea’s former great Bang Soo-hyun has finally been inducted into the Badminton World Federation (BWF) Hall of Fame - 23 years after winning the Olympic Games gold medal.

Soo-hyun defeated Mia Audina of Indonesia in an epic women’s singles final at the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games.

She retired after winning the Olympic gold but remained active in badminton by coaching school children and junior teams.

Soo-hyun, who has been working as a commentato­r with the Korean broadcaste­r MPC TV since 2000, also served as a BWF council member from 2005 to 2009.

On Thursday, she received the award from BWF president PoulErik Hoyer – who was the men’s singles gold medallist at the 1996 Olympics – during the BWF Annual General Meeting in Nanning, China.
