PETALING JAYA: A group comprising five Malaysian musicians made an unexpected splash in Westeros, so to speak, after releasing their hybrid rendition of themes from Game of Thrones on YouTube.

The talented musicians, playing under the name Mahakarya Studios MY, produced a traditional mash-up cover of three popular compositions from the wildly popular fantasy series with a unique folksy Malaysian twist.

They released their tribute on their YouTube channel and Instagram account.

Pairing the classical violin and cello with traditional Malay musical instruments such as the gambus, gendang and seruling, the group created hauntingly beautiful renditions of Ramin Djawadi’s House Greyjoy, House Stark and the opening theme of Game of Thrones.

By early yesterday, the video had garnered over 17,300 views and over 200 comments on YouTube.

It had also been shared more than 1,900 times on Facebook.

“As fans of GoT, we bend the knee,” one commenter said.

“I hope one day Malaysia will have one series like Game of Thrones but the stories are all about our pahlawan dulu2,” said another.

Some even put in requests for covers of Marvel’s Endgame and music popular video games Skyrim and Witcher.

The group replied in the comments section, thanking everyone for their support and promising to continue delivering more.
