Starting from back won’t break Adam’s resolve

SEPANG: Despite having to start from the back of the track once again, Petronas Sprinta Racing rider Adam Norrodin is confident of a top-20 finish in the Moto2 race today.

The Malaysian rider continued to struggle in qualifying after finishing in 31st place yesterday.

He had also qualified outside the top 30 in his last three races in Australia, Japan and Thailand last month.

But despite those poor lap times, the 21-year-old is one who does not give up easily.

In the three earlier races, his spirit was not dampened and he fought his way to 23rd in Thailand and Australia; and a 22nd spot in Japan.

“Even though it was quite positive in FP3 but at qualifying, I was stuck a bit and was disappointed not to improve on my time in the morning,” said Adam.

“So we will have to sit down and see what we can do to improve before tomorrow (today). But the balancing of the bike is better compared to the first day, so we will try to get the bike to go half a second faster.

“I think it will be a tough race coming from the back but I still have a chance to make a good race. I want to fight for the top 20.”

He is hoping for a dry race today as he believes it will benefit him should he make a return to the intermediate class in the future.

“I prefer it dry because even though I struggle a bit on the dry, I still want to learn and gain as much knowledge as I can from the experience.

“This is so that if I make a comeback to the world championships in the future, I will be more prepared.”

In the premier class, MotoGP rider Hafizh Syahrin Abdullah continued to struggle with his bike as he finished last in qualifying.

The KTM Tech 3 rider will start at the back line in 20th place.

“No matter what changes I did from yesterday till today, there was still not much difference and my machine still couldn’t move much.

“If it rains tomorrow (today), maybe I can do something compared to the dry.

“But if it’s dry, all I do is try and stay with my engine and not make any mistakes.

“For now, I’m staying positive and I’ll do the best I can for my fans and hopefully, they can enjoy the race.”
