Keep the good times rolling, says Adrian

PETALING JAYA: National bowler Adrian Ang was not in the Malaysian team that swept to the Asian Tenpin Bowling Championships (ATBC) title for the first time in Kuwait last week.

But the winning team’s six gold, one silver and four bronze haul has fired him up to keep the Malaysian flag flying high when he competes in the QubicaAMF World Cup in Palembang, Indonesia from Nov 16-24.

The 31-year-old Adrian hopes to pick up from where his teammates left off.

He knows the onus is now on him and Natasha Roslan, in the women’s category, to keep the good momentum going.

“I’m so proud with what my teammates achieved last week,” said a refreshed Adrian, after completing a four-day team building camp with the squad at PUSKEP Mara in Lenggong, Perak yesterday.

“Although I wasn’t part of the champion team, I felt the joy too because the entire squad headed straight for the team-building camp a day after they arrived from Kuwait.

“We did a lot of bonding activities. It was really fun and the atmosphere was fantastic.

“Everyone is still buoyed by last week’s success and that has whetted my appetite to do well in Palembang. Natasha and I will do our very best to keep the good run going.”

It will be Adrian’s third outing in the World Cup. He finished 17th on his debut in Caracas, Venezuela, and returned five years later in Johannesburg, South Africa to take 16th place.

Adrian will head to Palembang with a strong reputation, having enjoyed some great results over the last one year.

Adrian bagged Malaysia’s first ever men’s doubles crown with Tun Ameerul Hakim Tun Hasnul Azam at the World Championships in Hong Kong in December last year.

In April, he nailed the Thailand Open title.

He will also be aiming to become only the second Malaysian to win the World Cup after teammate Syafiq Ridhwan Abdul Malek in Wroclaw, Poland in 2012.

Debutant Natasha, meanwhile, has a chance to create history as the first women’s winner for Malaysia.

Sin Li Jane, Shalin Zulkifli and Siti Safiyah Amirah Abdul Rahman were the three Malaysians who have come close, all finishing second.

Li Jane is a two-time runner-up, in Wroclaw in 2014 and last year in Las Vegas; Shalin came in second in Belfast, Northern Ireland, in 1996 while Siti Safiyah also finished runner-up in Hermosillo, Mexico, in 2017.
