Putrajaya festival highlights ethnic and cultural diversity in Malaysia.
Culture and ethnic backgrounds take centre stage in show of lights and sounds
PUTRAJAYA: The Putrajaya Light and Motion Festival has returned for the seventh year, this time highlighting the ethnic and cultural diversity in Malaysia.
With the theme “Beautiful Malaysia”, the festival, which runs from Saturday until tomorrow, is aimed at promoting this diversity as part of the country’s identity.
“This is something that we should be proud of, and efforts to cause division and racial tension among the people of this country should be rejected,” said Federal Territories Minister Khalid Abdul Samad after launching the festival at the Putrajaya Square.
Khalid said in addition to the projection mapping presentation on the facade of the Palace of Justice, the event also featured several new attractions including ‘Planetarium 360’.
He said the dome-shaped structure which was 10m high with a 20m radius features a unique 360-degree visual experience with impressive sound effects.
Other attractions include “Laman Kampung Melayu”, China Town Street, Little India Street, live street music, wayang kulit (puppet shadow play), wayang pacak (outdoor movie screening), fire eating presentations and children’s activities.
On new year’s eve, the Putrajaya Square will be lit up with live and digital fireworks displays.
Meanwhile, Putrajaya Corporation president Datuk Dr Aminuddin Hassim said up to 1.5 million visitors were expected at the fournight festival.
“I hope people will come to Putrajaya to admire the beauty of this city lit by lights and celebrate the cultural diversity in our country,” he said.
The corporation is providing tents for shelter and a free shuttle bus service from Putrajaya Sentral to the festival site. — Bernama
