Three Thai women killed in collision
KUANTAN: Three Thai women were killed and three others seriously injured in an accident involving a lorry and a four-wheel-drive vehicle.
The incident took place at KM43.2 of the Kuala Lumpur-Karak Expressway (east bound) near Karak at about 1am yesterday.
Bentong police chief Supt Yusuf Unis said the victims were all from Narathiwat.
They were identified as Yawiyah, 53, her cousin Maskah, 49, and their friend Jantana, 43.
He said Yawiyah’s husband, identified as Mama, 55, who was driving a Toyota Hilux, was warded at Bentong Hospital with serious injuries.
“The 31-year-old lorry driver and his attendant, aged 52, were also seriously injured.
“The crash occurred when the lorry driver, on the way to Kuala Krai, was believed to have lost control while taking a bend on a slope,” he told Bernama, adding that the lorry skidded and rammed into a wall before hitting the Toyota Hilux on the outer lane.
Supt Yusuf said all the victims were pinned in their seats and firemen took almost an hour to retrieve their remains from the vehicle.
Their bodies were sent to the hospital for a post-mortem.

Factory worker Ei Ei Phyo died on the spot after the 19-year-old driver, a college student, rammed into her during the 12.30am incident yesterday.
OCPD Asst Comm Soffian Santong said the victim died from severe cervical and chest injuries.
“The driver also suffered chest injuries and broke his left thumb.
“We took his statement and released him after that,” he said, adding that the case was being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act for causing death by reckless driving.
