SHALLOTS from Kelantan are selling at a cheaper price in Golok, Thailand than in the state itself, reported Berita Harian.

According to the daily, in Golok the shallots were sold at between RM8 and RM9 per kilogram, but in Kelantan it was between RM10 and RM13.

Traders in Golok told the daily that the shallots were smuggled in from Kelantan.

A 45-year-old trader who wanted to remain anonymous said the shallots were displayed in the shops in small quantities, as it was a crime to bring it into Thailand without a permit.

“We only bring out the rest if a customer wants to buy big quantities. We do this because it’s a crime,” said the trader.
