PETALING JAYA: With the people consuming content online in the comfort of their homes, streaming service dimsum entertainment has seen a huge increase in viewership since the start of the movement control order (MCO).

Its chief marketing officer Lam Swee Kim said since March 18, new daily subscribers had increased by 3,264%, with a spike within a few days.

Lam said in the same period, the number of viewers checking out the content catalogue increased by 1,001%, while video views increased by 206%.

She said users were glued to their devices and smart TVs for longer stretches, staying on for over 80 minutes per viewing session, with more watching throughout the day, rather than just in the evening after work.

“This shows that the people are looking for entertainment online and coincides with our move to introduce two highly popular series – Love of Thousand Years from China and Angel Beside Me from Thailand – as a simulcast.

“We are also premiering new content multiple times a week, including Thai drama series Deja Vu and In Time With You, as well as expanding our catalogues with series like Singaporean historic drama, the Little Nyonya, My Secret, Terrius from Korea and Thai action series The Crime,” she said.

Beyond entertainment, dimsum is also drawing viewers with e-tuition content, which covers syllabus from primary and secondary schools.

“With a lot of kids not in school, many parents are looking for learning materials online.

“We carry the school syllabus, as well as provide content in different languages from Bahasa Malaysia to Chinese and English, ” she said.

dimsum entertainment is a Malaysian subscription video-on-demand service, operated by SMG Entertainment Sdn Bhd, which is part of Star Media Group.

The public can check out the streaming service at dimsum.asia.
