PETALING JAYA: The first batch of medical equipment has been delivered to two hospitals under Star Media Group’s (SMG) Frontliners Initiative.

Melaka Hospital received two beds for the intensive care unit (ICU) yesterday and Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital in Ipoh had four.

The beds are designed for healthcare facility use as they are low in height and equipped with electric-powered functions. These beds also come with user-friendly features and have an adjustable backrest as well as footrest.

Melaka Hospital director Dr Zaharimah Abdul Kadir expressed appreciation for the contribution, saying: “We thank those who made the effort to contribute towards our healthcare.”

Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Sulaiman Md Ali also expressed gratitude to non-governmental organisations and the corporate sector for playing their role in contributing equipment and funds to combat the Covid-19 pandemic.

The “Star Frontliners Initiative” launched under Star Foundation aims at raising funds to buy medical equipment and supplies for hospitals and medical staff.

SMG pledged RM1mil to kick start the initiative and urged all to support the frontliners by making a donation.

In Ipoh, the Star Foundation donated four ICU beds to the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital.

Receiving the beds on behalf of the hospital, Perak Health Department director Datuk Dr Ding Lay Ming praised SMG for being proactive.

“The beds are important and critical items. We really appreciate the help and support,” she said during the presentation ceremony on Wednesday.

“If the people need emergency services and help, we will give them,” she said.

Also present were hospital director Dr Abdul Malek Osman, deputy director Dr S. Sivanandarajah, and anaesthesia & intensive care department head Datuk Dr Kavitha M. Bhojwan.

Donations can be made to Star Foundation-Medical Fund’s Public Bank account (31-9984-9230) via bank transfer, credit or debit cards.

For a tax exemption receipt to be issued, donors need to fill in the Medical Fund-Donation Form available on the website listed below.

Established in 2004, Star Foundation is the charitable arm of Star Media Group, and is aimed at delivering meaningful initiatives with lasting outcomes to a diverse group of beneficiaries.

The Medical Fund programme was started in 2015 to help individuals and families in dire need of financial aid and medical attention.
