Friends who took a joyride during MCO jailed and fined

JELEBU: Four friends paid a heavy price for defying the movement control order (MCO) by going on a joyride.

Ng Kim Seang, 35, teoh Chun Ann, 32, Woo Soon You, 31, and Low Yen Lai, 24, were sentenced to one week in jail and ordered to pay a fine of RM1,000 each, in default three months’ jail.

All four were arrested for riding their motorcycle­s from Cheras in Kuala Lumpur to titi near here.

Yesterday, they pleaded guilty to committing the offence at about 9.30am on March 29 along Jalan Besar titi, near here, before magistrate Rahimah Rahim.

the four accused were charged under Rule 3(1) of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act (Measures within the Infected Local Areas) Regulation­s 2020.

the offence, punishable under Rule 7 of the same Act and read together with Section 34 of the Penal Code, carries a fine of up to RM1,000 or a jail term of not more than six months or both.

At the Seremban Magistrate’s

Court, 10 people, including four juveniles, caught playing football were charged with violating the MCO.

the four, aged between 14 and 16, pleaded guilty to playing football around 6pm on March 29 at a field in taman Marida in Senawang.

Magistrate Mahyun Yusof ordered them to be released on a

RM1,000 bail each, pending a report from the Welfare Department.

However, six others – A. Uvarajaa, 25, K. Mugilan, 24, K. Ranjit, 21, A. Denarajan, 20, K. Sanjai and Kumara Vell, both 19 – claimed trial to the charge.

the court also fixed May 20 for mention.

All the accused were not represente­d.
