Look at the positives, says Melaka striker Agba

The Covid-19 pandemic is not a “death sentence”, and it’s time people start looking for positives despite the many tragedies.

Melaka’s Nigerian striker Uche Agba (pic) has urged people not to be negative during this testing time and believes that efforts should be focused on the frontliners like doctors and nurses who are working tirelessly to curb the spread of the deadly virus.

The 33-year-old, who has so far scored two goals in four Super League matches, said he has come across a lot of negative reports and wants the narrative changed.

“More people are recovering from the infection than the number of deaths,” he said.

“We need to talk about the positive results we have seen over the weeks. Doctors and nurses should be encouraged, and those tested positive for Covid-19 should be given hope.

“Good news keeps me hopeful that we can overcome the pandemic. I was not scared at all when it surfaced here, because I know God will protect everyone.

“My thoughts and prayers to everyone infected, and I hope we do not see more deaths. But, we must continue obeying the rules.”

Together with Haitian international playmaker Sony Norde, Agba has shown some tremendous attacking displays in the four matches so far where Melaka collected six points.

However, the team are now suddenly in the relegation zone after the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) deducted three points for the team’s failure to follow the financial plans they had submitted to settle players’ arrears.

Agba said it was a blow to the team, but he’s remaining positive about that, too.

“I believe the management are doing their best in this situation. As for the players, we shall remain positive and keep winning games when the league resumes.

“Melaka are a team full of characters determined to bring success. We can still do better, and our aim is to be one of the top teams in the country,” he said.

Right now, Agba is doing a lot of reading, and he is also learning how to cook since he is living on his own in Melaka.

“I have been keeping myself fit by doing some running at home. Strength training is essential,” he said.

Well, there’s a positive for Agba. He has the discipline to train hard and the know-how to make sure he eats healthily.
