‘Go online and order food for Ramadan’

-

There will be no physical bazaars or stalls selling breaking of fast foodstuff during this Ramadan because both packand-pick as well as drive-through bazaars will not be allowed to operate, says Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

He said this was to ensure people did not crowd such places and risk the possibility of infecting themselves or others with Covid-19.

He, however, said that people could do online orders and have the food delivered to their homes as what is being practised now during the movement control order (MCO).

The minister said the special Cabinet committee had reviewed the matter yesterday.

“The meeting decided that bazaarstyle businesses cannot operate under the current circumstances.

“This includes the proposed packand-pick as well as drive-through that were proposed earlier.

“So, the issue of Ramadan bazaars is closed.

“There will be no bazaars this Ramadan,” he said adding that allowing these businesses to operate would only result in more vehicles on the road.

On another matter, Ismail Sabri said police arrested 1,315 people for violating the MCO on Wednesday.

Of the number, 1,226 individuals were remanded to be charged in court while 89 people were released on bail the same day.

A total of 813 roadblocks were conducted with 558,548 vehicles checked the same day.

Ismail Sabri said people had to queue at roadblocks longer now, not just because there were more vehicles on the road but because the police were stricter in their checks and queries of the people’s movements.
