Q What assistance is the government offering to Covid-19 patients and patient-underinvestigation (PUI) as well as their families?

A PUIs are housed at Institut Sosial Malaysia and Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Academy for their comfort and for health workers to monitor them with ease. The Federal Territories Ministry has also provided two health screening centres at the Kuala Lumpur Health Office and at the Pantai Ecopark Community Centre for health workers in Kuala Lumpur to test for Covid-19. The government, through the Federal Territory Islamic Religious Council (MAIWP), has also donated ventilator machines to seven hospitals in the Federal Territories, seeing that the machines were badly needed by hospitals for intensive care unit patients.

Q What kind of assistance can families of Covid-19 patients living in Putrajaya expect?

A Families of Covid-19 patients living in Putrajaya can receive a one-off cost of living aid of RM500 per family from Perbadanan Putrajaya. Families who are entitled for the aid can contact Siti Fadilah Ramli at 012-251 5879 to apply.

Q Is there aid provided for families of those who have passed away of Covid-19 in the Federal Territories?

A Yayasan Wilayah Persekutuan (YWP) will give a one-off cash aid of RM2,500 to the next of kin of a patient whom the Health Ministry has confirmed to have died of Covid-19, under its Bantuan Khairat Kematian programme. To qualify for the aid, the last known address of the patient must be in Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya or Labuan. The aid will be deposited directly into the next of kin’s bank account. The next of kin can call 017266 1468 or 017-636 3809 for information on the cash aid.

Q Are there awareness programmes on Covid-19 or sanitation activities done by the government for the safety of Federal Territories’ residents?

A Yes. In Kuala Lumpur, the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) distributes pamphlets to the public and has carried out sanitisation programmes at the markets under DBKL’s management. In Putrajaya, Perbadanan Putrajaya has conducted cleaning and sanitisation, and it has provided hand sanitisers at public facilities, affordable housing areas and apartments under its management.

Q What are some of the assistance being given by the government to residents of the Federal Territories during the movement control order (MCO) period?

A The government will give aid focusing on three aspects: housing; traders and hawkers; and the lower-income earners.

HOUSING

> Kuala Lumpur Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) has given a rent exemption for six months from March to August 2020 to all residents of its People’s Housing Projects (PPR) as well as National Economic Action Council (PPRMTEN) housing projects. If there is still rent being charged in the DBKL Housing Office system, residents can inform the Community Development and Urban Wellbeing Department (Finance and Accounts unit) at 03-2617 6000 after the MCO period ends or email jpppk@dbkl.gov.my. > Yayasan Wilayah Persekutuan also gives a six-month moratorium on the automatic payment of the housing instalment for DBKL’s PPR and PPR-MTEN housing project buyers under the Special Housing Financing Scheme (SPWP). Buyers will not be charged penalties or late payment fines for the moratorium. Enquiries can be directed to 012-259 7055 or 013-211 9847 or 010-232 8374. > Labuan Perbadanan Labuan will give a rent exemption for six months from March to August 2020 for residents of its public housing units. Those with rental payments between RM150 and RM650 per month are applicable for the exemption. This covers 546 families.

TRADERS/HAWKERS

Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Labuan – A RM500 one-off assistance will be given to hawkers and petty traders in Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Labuan whose earnings were distrupted by the MCO. MAIWP has allocated RM3mil for this purpose. – In Kuala Lumpur, licensed hawkers and petty traders who sell in places such as the Bazaria Larut Malam, night markets, open markets, food trucks, roadside stalls, agricultural markets and kiosks will receive a one-off aid of RM500 from DBKL. Licence holders need to give their correct details such as their identification card and licence numbers, the account number of the licence holder and the bank name via https://elesen.dbkl. gov.my, which is open from noon on March 30 to May 15, 2020. – DBKL has also given rent exemption for six months from March to August 2020 to 6,000 renters of DBKL’s premises under the management of Licensing and Petty Traders Development Department. – The public can write to ehsancovid19dbkl@gmail.com for more information. – In Putrajaya, Perbadanan Putrajaya has given rent exemption for two months (March and April) to those renting premises managed by the corporation such as in food courts and public markets. Rent exemption is, however, not applicable for some premises such as the Nadi@15 building, Canselori Presint 15 building and several premises in the Perbadanan Putrajaya complex that have been rented by Maybank, ASNB and Pos Laju. – In Labuan, Perbadanan Labuan has given rent exemption to 774 hawkers and petty traders in Pasar Sentral Labuan, night markets, agricultural markets, food courts and shoplots belonging to the corporation for six months between March and August 2020. This will cost Perbadanan Labuan rental revenue of RM1,036,110. Renters, however, will not be given any exemption for rent arrears before April 2020.

LOWER-INCOME EARNERS

Among the initiatives for lowerincome earners in Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Labuan are: – MAIWP has brought forward the payment for 22,000 zakat recipients from March 25 to March 19 involving an allocation of RM9.67mil. – MAIWP has also given additional zakat payments of RM500 to 24,196 families in April 2020, involving an allocation of RM12.1mil. – Federal Territory Islamic Affairs Department (Jawi) has also given aid such as foodstuff to hospitals and clinics in Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya through the Jawi Food Bank initiative and it has also distributed food daily to 700 homeless people until March 31 at a cost of RM84,000. – MAIWP through Baitulmal also gives emergency aid to individuals living in the Federal Territories who are eligible and who are not receiving monthly financial aid from Baitulmal.

The aid will be given in stages. > Putrajaya Perbadanan Putrajaya will give a food pack of food necessities totalling RM100 each consisting of rice, cooking oil, flour and sugar to B40 and underprivileged residents who are registered with the e-Kasih system. Perbadanan Putrajaya also gives exemption to preschool fees for April and May 2020 for those whose children are enrolled in preschools owned by the corporation. > Labuan Perbadanan Labuan gives aid between RM50 and RM100 in the form of necessities to Labuan residents affected by the MCO.
