Short drive for three playing golf during MCO

IPOH: Three enthusiast­s playing golf in a Batu Gajah club found themselves putting into the long arm of the law.

They were arrested by the police for defying the movement control order. (MCO)

The three including the 67-yearold golf club manager, and two of his friends aged 58 and 36 were detained at the golf course yesterday.

Batu Gajah OCPD ACP Ahmad Adnan Basri said three were playing golf at a club at about 1.50pm.

“The 58-year-old man arrested is a transport manager in Ipoh, while the other, who is also from Ipoh, works as a tuition teacher.

“A police team were on their rounds in the Batu Gajah area and when they arrived at the club they saw the three men playing golf.

“As the team was heading towards them, the trio got into a buggy and left but were subsequent­ly arrested in the golf course area,” he added.

ACP Ahmad said the three men were arrested under Section 269 of the Penal Code and the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act (Measures within the Infected Local Areas) Regulation­s.

He said their golf bags were also confiscate­d.

They would be charged at the Batu Gajah court today.
