Tailors: Let us operate to fulfil festive orders

-

JOHOR BARU: Tailors here are appealing to the authorities to let them operate to meet requests from customers for Ramadan and Hari Raya Aidilfitri.

Teluk Belanga Design owner Jamil Sukaimi said this would also bring in income, which is crucial to meet the payment of salaries to workers.

“We could not operate online as the clothes are 100% custom-made, and we do understand the reason behind having the movement control order (MCO).

“All we ask is to open on these two important months so that we can finish up the orders. Some of the customers had engaged our services before the MCO started.”

Jamil added that he was now working with limited resources because thread and fabric shops were also closed since March 18.

Fiqree Fashion Design owner Mohd Taufik Samion said he would usually be busy with work and orders during this time of the year.

“Nowadays, I spend my time working on orders that have been made by my customers before the MCO.

“I have taken up some government contracts to sew corporate shirts so that I will have enough money to get through this month.”

Lan Collection owner Roslan Harun said: “My main customers are Singaporeans. Since the MCO and the circuit breaker order started in both countries, my shop has remained closed.

“Luckily, I have stocked up on some materials,” he said adding that he is in communications with his costumers through WhatsApp.
