Akhyar expands his clothing line during the MCO

- By K. RAJAN PETALING

Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) winger Akhyar Rashid models himself after his idol – Brazilian superstar Neymar – on and off the pitch.

They are similarly built and share the same mazy-dribbling style and sharpness in front of goal but the Kedahan has something extra – an eye for fashion.

While super rich Neymar is into exclusive designers apparel, Akhyar is into designing and marketing his casual and street fashion.

The 20-year-old has his own clothing line which includes T-shirts, jerseys and hoodies. He has just launched a Hari Raya collection and is currently on sale.

Akhyar said he has been dabbling in business after listening to the advice of his elder brother and former international Rafdi Rashid.

What started out as a hobby is now a full-time business which helps to supplement his income during the movement control order (MCO).

“My brother has been doing his ice cream business after his footballing career and has advised me to do something besides football as you wouldn’t know what will happen in the future,” said Akhyar.

“I like wearing cool clothes and I felt this is something I will enjoy so I decided to go with it. I have good people working with me and I just help out when needed.

“The public have been supportive of my clothes and I’m happy with how the business is going.”

Akhyar said the MCO and the suspension of the M-League is an opportunity for sportsmen to plan their future.

“We should do some soul-searching at this time. Starting a business is not just about looking for profits, there’s a lot of planning involved.

“I had good people advising me and my brother has the experience as well so I’m lucky ... I think doing the research before going into business is important and since we are at home during the MCO, we can spend our time looking for ideas and information online.”
