30 nabbed for defying CMCO in raids

-

Police arrested 30 people who defied the conditional movement control order (MCO) by partying, drinking and taking drugs in two separate raids.

In the first case, 18 youth aged between 17 and 26, including four women, were held for holding a party at an apartment in Meru.

OCPD Asst Comm A. Asmadi Abdul Aziz said when police arrived there at 2am yesterday, loud music was blaring and the people inside refused to open the door.

“We had to use force to enter the unit. Some tried to flee but we managed to arrest all of them.

“Background checks showed the organiser, aged 24, has a previous record under Section 376 of the Penal Code for rape, as well as one previous case for defying the MCO.

“A 17-year-old student with previous records of drug-related offences and defying the MCO was also among those arrested,” he said in a statement.

ACP Asmadi said the rest of the suspects have between one and three cases of defying the MCO while several others had previous records for drug possession and possession of weapons at a riot.

All the suspects have been remanded for three days to assist investigations under the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Measures within the Infected Local Areas) Regulations.

On the second raid, ACP Asmadi said 12 men, aged between 22 and 52, were arrested at a bar in Jalan Veerasamy at about 1.30am for consuming alcohol.

“One of the suspects, aged 22, has a previous drug related record,” he said.
