Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and his supporters had their memberships nullified for going against the party’s direction, says Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin (pic).

The Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) president also said the five were not sacked.

While urging calm among Bersatu members, Muhyiddin said he did not make a hasty decision over the matter, although he was pressured by many people to take action against the five.

“I want to be fair to everyone and to make sure any action taken was based on the party’s constitution,” he said yesterday.

“No one is above the party constitution.”

At the same time, Muhyiddin took the opportunity to wish Dr Mahathir all the best, if he decides to remain with Pakatan Harapan.

“We are definitely disappointed with the decision made by Dr Mahathir not to be with us,” he said.

“Dr Mahathir and his followers decided to cooperate with Pakatan despite the party’s decision against it. If that is Dr Mahathir’s decision, I wish him all the best.”

Muhyiddin also urged Bersatu members to close ranks to strengthen the present Perikatan Nasional government.

On Thursday, Dr Mahathir, Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir, Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman, Dr Maszlee Malik and Datuk Amiruddin Hamzah were informed in writing that their memberships were terminated.

This was because they chose to sit with the Opposition during the May 18 Parliamentary sitting.

However, Dr Mahathir, in a press conference at the Bersatu headquarters on Friday, maintained that he is still the chairman of the party and that he wanted to sack Muhyiddin from Bersatu.
