24 nabbed for illegally crossing border

-

Police have arrested 24 people for criss-crossing the Penang-Kedah border illegally via two lorong tikus (illegal routes) in Lorong Tengah, Jalan Kampung Selamat, here.

All of them, including a Vietnamese man, were fined RM1,000 each under Section 6 (1) of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Measures Within the Infected Local Areas) Regulations 2020.

North Seberang Perai OCPD ACP Noorzainy Mohd Noor said the offenders, including two women, were picked up during the operations conducted between Wednesday and Friday.

He said the offenders were believed to have sneaked in and out of the border during the movement control order period to avoid police roadblocks along the main roads.

“We found two secret paths along some oil palm plantations frequently used by these offenders to cross the border without permission.

“We issued them compounds,” he said in a statement yesterday.
