Felda are turning into fearsome Fighters, says Velez

-

PETALING JAYA: Do not write off Felda United when the Super League resumes in September.

With only seven games left to chart their fortunes in the top division, Argentine striker Nicolas Velez believes it is no longer about survival but the Fighters can now aim for a top three or even earn a berth in the continental stage of the AFC Champions League.

The 29-year-old said anything could happen during the shortened league period, and his teammates should aim for the skies.

“It will be a different experience for all of us to play fewer games than before, but we will adapt to finish the league the best as we can,” said Velez, who has played for clubs like Croatia’s Hajduk Split, Portugal’s Belenenses and India’s Northeast United.

“We are in the top five right now, and we have bigger ambition now.

“We’ll try to fight for the top three spot and even aim for the AFC spot. I know we can do it.

“My time in the team has been the best in my career.

“I like the people in the club, from staff members, manager, kit men and players.”

Velez admitted he has learnt to appreciate life in a different way instead of lamenting on the negatives surrounding the Covid-19 pandemic.

“The 2020 football season is a new experience for everyone. I’m looking at everything in a positive light now,” said Velez.

Now that the movement control order has been made conditional, Velez has been exercising outdoors and even celebrated his wife’s birthday three days ago in a restaurant.
