Sherman hopes Red Eagles will settle salary arrears

PETALING JAYA: Please show more urgency.

That’s the plea from Kedah’s Liberian striker Kpah Sherman as he urges his employers to settle the dues owed to all the players in the team.

Kedah have not paid their players’ salaries from March to May due to lack of funding as their revenue has been affected due to the Covid-19 pandemic. In fact, the players have only received 40% of their February pay.

Admitting it would be tough for anyone to go without any source of income for three months, the 28-year-old said he was unable to channel some money to his loved ones back in Liberia.

For a player who gives his all on the pitch, he hopes the club will live up to their commitments and pay up.

“It is difficult for our families to live without any earnings for a long time. We’re hoping that the relevant authorities can find a quick solution,” said Sherman, who has played for clubs like MIFA and PKNS in the Malaysian League.

“If they can give part of it or at most, pay two months salary, that will be great. The state and management said they are working hard to solve this but they must work harder.

“Our families depend on our income.

“I’m not planning to report this to FIFA or the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) because most of the clubs are also facing the same issue.

“I hope a big club like Kedah will come up with something soon.”

Sherman is looking forward to the resumption of the Super League in September, although the Malaysian Football League (MFL) have shortened it.

“It’s another three-month wait. All the boys have to be focused. We must win six out of the seven games to stand a chance in the league,” he said.

“The shortened league is unfavourable to all the teams. Anybody can win the league or get relegated.

“Not many players will be able to get back into the groove quickly after a long break. It’s all about which teams want it more.”

It is difficult for our families to live without any earnings for a long time. We’re hoping that the relevant authorities can find a quick solution.
