Ervin and Galven shine on the course – and in their courses

PETALING JAYA: There are courses. And there are courses. But Ervin Chang (left) and Galven Kendall Green can excel in both. National top amateur golfers Chang and Galven have made the country proud by being named the Golf All-America Scholars for the 2019/20 season. The duo were among the 614 student-athletes recognised for their fine performance on the golf course and in the classroom by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA). To be eligible for the status, an individual must be a sophomore (second year student), junior (third year) or senior (fourth and final year) playing collegiate golf for their university. In addition, they must have a stroke-average under 76.0, and maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point average (CGPA) of 3.2. Both Ervin, 21, and Galven, 20, performed decently well to make the grade.

It was Ervin’s second successive year being honoured as an AllAmerica Scholar and first for Galven.

Ervin, who completed his sports management degree at the Liberty University with a CGPA of 3.8, also boasts a commendable season stroke average of 72.22 from the nine appearances made this season.

He registered three top-10 finishes, with the highlight being a fifth placing at the Rod Myers Invitational.

Galven, the younger brother of Malaysian No. 1 Gavin Kyle Green, impressed as a junior member of the University of New Mexico.

Galven, whose best finish was a joint runner-up at the William H. Tucker Intercollegiate, had an average scoring of 72.9 per round in all his seven outings of the season.

Academically, Galven, who is majoring in psychology, excelled with a CGPA of 3.62.
