A policeman was among four people arrested for suspected involvement in drug trafficking activities in Muar.

Johor police chief Comm Datuk Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay said the arrest followed a drug seizure worth RM2.67mil that was made by the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) in the waters off Parit Samsu, Muar, on June 1.

He said that in a follow-up operation conducted by the Muar Narcotic Crime Investigation Department (NCID) and the marine police on June 6, two suspects who had managed to escape from the MMEA clutch then were held.

“Another suspect was arrested along with these two.

“We found 2.1kg of syabu worth RM84,000 on them,” he told a press conference at the Johor police contingent headquarters here yesterday.

Comm Ayob said based on the interrogation of the suspects, a 40-year-old police lance corporal who works at the Muar district police was arrested on June 25 under Section 3(1) of the Dangerous Drugs (Special Preventive Measures) Act 1985.

The suspects are aged between 23 and 37.

Two of them tested positive for methamphetamine, he said.

“Two of these suspects also have previous criminal records involving drugs. There are two other suspects still at large,” he added.

Comm Ayob said investigations revealed that the drugs were brought in from the north of the peninsula.

“There were 33kg of drugs that were supposed to be sold to Indonesia, and of this amount, 25kg have been seized by MMEA and 2.1kg seized by the police.

“We believe that the remaining 6kg are with these two suspects and we are tracking them down,” he said.

In another case, Comm Ayob said the police arrested five men for involvement in drug trafficking activities and confiscated drugs and vehicles worth close to RM500,000 in Bandar Seri Alam here in a series of raids on June 21 and 22 by the Seri Alam NCID.

The suspects are local males aged between 25 and 29.

“They were arrested along with various types of drugs – 9.1kg of ganja, 36.1g of syabu and two litres of ketum juice worth RM26,470.

“We also seized three vehicles worth RM386,000, one motorcycle worth RM8,000, and RM850 cash,” he said, adding that the seized items were worth a total of RM421,320.

Three of the suspects also tested positive for drug use.

All suspects from both cases are currently under remand for 11 days from the date of arrest.

They are being investigated under Sections 39B, 39A(2) and 15 (1) (a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
