164 fined, 16 held for flouting RMCO
KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 164 people were issued with compounds and another 16 remanded for violating the recovery movement control order (MCO), says Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
The Senior Minister said action was taken on Friday for various offences, including taking part in activities that hampered social distancing.
“The compliance operation task force conducted 57,066 checks on Friday, including checks on 3,489 supermarkets, 5,394 restaurants and 3,550 banks.
“The compliance task force comprises 2,301 teams, which consist of 11,705 personnel,” he said in a statement yesterday.
On Ops Benteng, Ismail Sabri said police conducted 61 roadblocks nationwide on Friday, checking 31,184 vehicles.
“Three foreigners were detained for immigration offences,” he said.
He said 9,520 public sanitisation operations had been conducted nationwide since March 30.
“It involved 12,809 premises, including 2,694 business centres, 5,627 government buildings and 1,591 housing areas among others,” he said.
A total of 7,364 people, who returned to Malaysia since July 24, had also been placed under mandatory quarantine, said Ismail Sabri.
The returnees were placed at 30 hotels and five public training institutes in Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Negri Sembilan, Penang, Johor, Sarawak, Kelantan, Perak, Perlis and Kedah.
“They returned from 30 countries, including Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, Japan, Bangladesh, Spain, France and Australia.
“Twenty returnees were sent to the hospital for treatment after testing positive for Covid-19,” he said.
Checks on 10 construction sites by the Construction Industry Development Board on Friday showed that all were complying with the standard operation procedure, he added.
