Two schools closed, two villages under TEMCO

-

KANGAR: Two schools in the Sanglang district near here will be closed for seven days beginning tomorrow in light of new Covid-19 cases in the area.

In a late night announcement, the Perlis state government said it had also implemented the targeted enhanced movement control order (MCO) for 28 days starting from yesterday in two villages in Kuala Sanglang.

The decision involving Kampung Kuala Sanglang and Kampung Tanah Timbul was effective from 10pm last night and would last until Sept 4.

“Members of the public outside the targeted enhanced MCO (TEMCO) area are not allowed to enter except for those involved in providing essential services,” it said.

The statement said residents in both villages were asked to comply with the Home Isolation Orders (quarantine) issued to them after undergoing a Covid-19 screening test at the Sanglang health clinic.

“During the quarantine order period at home, only the head of household is allowed to leave the house to buy daily necessities while waiting for other members to obtain a release order by the Perlis Health Department,” it said.

State education committee chairman Rozieana Ahmad said the two schools were SK Sanglang and SMK Sanglang.

“The two schools are being closed as a precautionary measure after two students were among 10 family members confirmed positive for Covid-19 yesterday,” she said, adding that learning would be conducted online during the period.

Rozieana said although Chinese national-type schools (SJK) in the district were not closed, parents worried about their children’s safety could opt not to send them to school, adding that they should obtain information regarding homework from their teachers.

On Friday, the media reported that 10 members of a family in the Sanglang constituency tested positive for Covid-19.

Meanwhile, a Bernama survey around Kuala Sanglang yesterday found most business premises, including eateries and groceries, were closed following the latest development.

The public seems to be taking precautions by staying at home.

“The Perlis health department conducted health screenings on 872 residents of the two villages today,” Perlis Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Azlan Man said in Kangar yesterday.

He also advised those who have undergone screenings to comply with standard operating procedure to prevent the spread of the epidemic. — Bernama
