Muhaimin means business as he seeks to catch the eye of national selectors

PETALING JAYA: Goalkeeper Muhaimin Mohamad’s decision to venture out of the comfort zone in order to play regularly is paying off in a big way.

The current Felda United custodian is the son of Mohamad Ramlee, a former Kedah player in the 1980s-1990s.

But being Kedah’s third choice goalkeeper from 2011-2014, seeing action on the pitch was hard to come by, so he decided to leave.

His journey saw him turning out for Kuala Lumpur (2014), PKNS (2016) and Ministry of Finance (MOF) FC (2017).

Over the last two seasons, he showcased his calibre with Super League newcomers Petaling Jaya City.

The 28-year-old’s intrepid display between the posts earned him a move to the Fighters.

And now he even dares to dream of getting a slot in the national team.

“Who wouldn’t want to play for the national team. This desire inspires and drives me on to give my everything in every single match I play,” said Muhaimin.

“I understand it will take some time to realise my dream and what’s important now is to focus on playing regularly for Felda and helping them to finish in the top four of the Super League this season.”

The Fighters are currently fifth in the 12-team Super League standings with five points after four matches from one win, two draws and one defeat.

Muhaimin recalled being relentless in pursuing his goal as the key that helped his career to flourish. That was why he even decided to drop down to the third division FAM Cup league to revive his career.

“Giving up is not in my dictionary although I failed to break into Kedah’s first XI at the early stage of my career because they had several experienced goalkeepers,” said Muhaimin.

“Maybe it was not my “rezeki” (good fortune) at that time despite waiting for three seasons but I was confident with my abilities and decided to venture out to join KL and PKNS but still failed to earn a starting role.”

“I then requested to be loaned out to MOF in the middle of the 2016-2017 season although they were just playing in the third division FAM Cup but that’s where I started to build my career before joining PJ City who were known as MIFA in 2018.”

“I have to give credit to coach K. Devan because of his guidance during my time with MIFA and PJ City. My career really took off under his guidance and I got the recognition.

“I’m glad that I can still continue plying my trade with Felda in the Super League. I hope to play consistently for them until the end of the season.”
