PETALING JAYA: Three men and a woman have been detained in connection with a spate of snatch thefts here.

Police began their probe following an incident on July 11 when a man was robbed of his mobile phone in Damansara Perdana.

Petaling Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Nik Ezanee Mohd Faisal said a CID team raided a house in Kampung Sungai Penchala on Aug 5 and detained a 34-year-old suspect.

“We also seized a motorcycle believed to have been used in the heist and a mobile phone. We believe the suspect was also responsible for more than nine snatch thefts in the district,” he said yesterday.

Further investigations led police to discover that the suspect sold his ill gotten gains to two mobile phone shops in Taman Medan.

“We raided the shops at 4pm on Aug 5 and detained two men and a woman.

“We also seized several mobile phones,” he said.

In another case, three men were detained in connection with a burglary at a house in

Saujana Damansara.

ACP Nik Ezanee said police raided an apartment in Damansara Damai on the night of Aug 5 and arrested two men aged 25 and 30.

“One of them is also wanted in connection with a case in Brickfields,” he said.

The suspects led police to an accomplice at another apartment in the area the next morning where the 39-year-old man was arrested.

“We seized mobile phones, watches, handbags, shoes and MyKads believed to have been stolen,” said ACP Nik Ezanee, who said that the three suspects were believed to be responsible for seven burglaries here.

Meanwhile, two men were detained after a robbery near the Sungai Buloh toll plaza on Aug 6.

A woman had stopped her car there at about 9.30am when two men rode beside her vehicle and smashed the car window to get to her handbag.

However, the woman rammed her car against the suspects, causing them to fall.

ACP Nik Ezanee said members of the public caught the suspects who were handed to police, adding that the handbag was recovered.
