-

The Sivagangga and Kurau clusters did not record any new cases although Malaysia saw the addition of nine Covid-19 infections.

With the nine new cases yesterday, this brought total infections in the country to 9,103, said Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

“No new cases were recorded for the Sivagangga cluster in Kedah or the Kurau cluster in Perak,” he said in his daily press statement yesterday.

Out of the nine new cases, Dr Noor Hisham said five were imported cases while the rest were local transmissions.

The five imported cases consisted of three Malaysians and two non-citizens who had returned from Japan, India, Pakistan, New Zealand and Singapore.

On the four local transmissions, Dr Noor Hisham said it involved all non-Malaysians.

“Three cases were detected in Kuala Lumpur after undergoing screening at the Bukit Jalil Immigration Detention Depot and one was detected in Sabah,” he said.

There are currently two positive Covid-19 cases being treated in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) but no patient required ventilator support.

There are currently 169 active cases in the country and yesterday also saw six patients discharged, bringing the total cumulative discharged cases to 8,809.

Malaysia’s recovery rate currently stood at 96.8% out of the overall number of cases, said Dr Noor Hisham, adding that no death was recorded, keeping the death toll at 125.

On the Sivagangga cluster in Kedah, he said that a total of 5,645 individuals had been screened so far and that the number of positive cases remained at 45.

Out of the 45 cases in three states, Kedah had 31 positive cases, Perlis had 11 and Penang had three, said Dr Noor Hisham.

The Sivagangga cluster originated in Napoh, Kubang Pasu, after an Indian man who was a restaurateur with permanent resident status in Malaysia disobeyed his home quarantine order.

For the Kurau cluster in Perak which was detected on Sunday, a total of 180 people from Perak and Penang were screened and positive cases remained at five, he said.
