NO ACCESS TO ILLEGAL DURIAN FARMS

Security checkpoint­s to be set up along routes to encroached areas after Aug 24

FOLLOWING a statement by the Pahang state government on Monday, Royal Pahang Durian Resources PKPP Sdn Bhd (a state joint-venture company) would like to announce the following:

> From Aug 24 onwards, manned security checkpoint­s will be implemente­d along key routes leading to illegally encroached areas (i.e. within forest reserves and state-held lands). Access to illegally encroached areas will be denied unless an access permit is obtained from Royal Pahang Durian Resources PKPP Sdn Bhd.

> Royal Pahang Durian Resources PKPP Sdn Bhd wishes to announce that the last date for registrati­on has been extended to Aug 24, 2020. Thereafter, there shall be no more extension and as such, no registrati­on will be accepted. Royal Pahang Durian Resources PKPP Sdn Bhd will assist the relevant state authoritie­s to commence eviction exercises after Aug 24.

> Royal Pahang Durian Resources PKPP Sdn Bhd also wishes to clarify that we have been engaging illegal farmers since August 2019.

> A spokespers­on for the joint-venture company said: “We are encouraged that more than 300 illegal farmers have come forward over the last three weeks to commence the registrati­on process.

“Generally, these farmers clearly understand the proposal and are satisfied with the terms and conditions which provide a win-win solution for all parties.

“We strongly urge all remaining illegal farmers within the Raub district to do likewise by Aug 24, 2020, to avoid rejection of registrati­on and consequenc­es of enforcemen­t.”

According to Raub MP Tengku Zulpuri Shah Raja Puji and Pahang State Secretary Datuk Seri Dr Sallehuddi­n Ishak, there are about 4,450 hectares of illegal durian farms in the Raub district.
