KUALA LUMPUR: A group running a drug lab that primarily processed heroin has been busted by Bukit Aman following a series of raids.

Three raids were conducted from Aug 14 to 18, where seven syndicate members, including the mastermind, were arrested. Police seized several types of drugs such as heroin, Ecstasy and Erimin 5 pills.

“On Aug 14, two raids were conducted in the Klang Valley where we arrested six members. The first was in Selayang Baru, where four local men were arrested, with the police seizing a variety of drugs, including syabu and Ecstasy.

“The second raid near Batu Caves saw two more arrests, including an Iran national. Then on Aug 18, the seventh suspect was caught,” Bukit Aman Narcotic Crime Investigation Department deputy director Deputy Comm Zainudin Ahmad said at the Setiawangsa police station yesterday. It is learnt that the police arrested the last suspect in Setapak.

DCP Zainudin said four of them had the expertise to process drugs.

“A total of 42.4kg of drugs were seized along with drug processing equipment. The seizure has a combined value of RM2.6mil.

“We are hunting down the remaining members of the group. All suspects, aged between 33 and 56, have been remanded,” he said.

The seized drugs are enough for 75,000 users.

DCP Zainudin said the current recovery movement control order period, which saw nightclubs and the like closed, had led to some fluctuation in the street prices of drugs.

“The prices fluctuate according to demand, which we saw has dropped because these outlets are closed,” he said.
