MB: Flood-prone areas to get proper drainage, retention ponds

-

TANJUNG MALIM: The state government plans to build retention ponds and proper drainage systems at flood-prone areas in Slim.

Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu said he visited several of these areas, including Kampung Klah Baru.

“We’ve been planning for some time. The issue had been raised before by the late Slim assemblyman,” he said, adding that the state would allocate RM200,000 for the project.

Faizal said the state would also look into the requests by Kampung Hendra villagers to be granted land titles.

“There are several processes that are needed to be done and we will get the Batang Padang Land Office to handle the matter.

“But I was told that lots there are very limited. There are only 22 lots,” he added.

On criticism levelled at him by the Opposition who labelled him as a “godson” of Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, the Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) deputy president said he still loved and respected the former prime minister.

“My feeling of respect and love for Dr Mahathir has never faded, especially when I feel indebted because he has taught me so much in politics,” he said.

On Bersatu, Faizal said he planned to call an extraordinary general meeting (EGM) to amend the party constitution for it to accept non-Malay members.

“Besides strengthening the party, we will discuss about appointing Datuk Seri Azmin Ali as one of the party’s vice-presidents during the EGM,” he said.

It was announced on Saturday that Azmin had officially joined Bersatu.
