123 fined, 12 arrested for RMCO violations

-

A total of 123 people were issued with compounds while 12 others were arrested for violating the recovery movement control order (MCO).

Among the offences committed on Saturday were not wearing face masks, taking part in pursuits that hampered physical distancing and patronising pub and nightclubs that were not allowed to be opened yet, said Senior Minister (Security) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

“The compliance operation task force, led by the police, conducted 63,059 checks nationwide, including at 3,905 supermarkets, 5,533 restaurants and 3,630 banks. The task force consists of 16,692 personnel split into 4,406 teams,” he said in a statement yesterday.

On Ops Benteng, he said five foreigners were detained for various immigration offences.

Ismail Sabri said the relevant agencies had tightened security along the country’s borders and secret passages to prevent the entry of illegal immigrants.

Meanwhile, 15,866 people have returned to Malaysia since July 24, including 7,740 who are currently undergoing mandatory quarantine.

Ismail Sabri said 8,083 of them had been allowed to go home while the remaining 43 were sent to hospital for treatment.

“Those undergoing mandatory quarantine have been placed at 67 hotels and five public training institutes. They returned from 32 countries, including Spain, France, Australia, New Zealand and the United States,” he said.

On Saturday, the police conducted 459 checks on those who were home quarantined, he added.
