Warisan not forcing allies to use single logo

KOTA KINABALU: Parti Warisan Sabah is not forcing coalition partners to use a single logo during state polls on Sept 26, says party president Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal.

But he noted that parties under Pakatan Harapan agreed to use PKR’s logo as a common symbol during GE14, and questioned why the same could not be done now.

“In the last general election, everyone used the PKR logo and DAP did not use their rocket. If they can do it in KL, why not Sabah?

“PKR also used other people’s sacrifice for them, so why can’t they sacrifice for Sabah?

“This is only a request, we can’t force people. I don’t like to force people,” Shafie added.

PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the party would contest under its own logo in the upcoming state election.

But Sabah PKR leadership council vice-chairman John Ghani urged the party’s leadership to consider giving autonomy to the state party leadership to decide on the issue.

Meanwhile, Upko president Datuk Seri Wilfred Madius Tangau also said the party would use its own logo in the state polls.

Upko, a former Barisan Nasional coalition member, has never contested on its own logo since its inception in 1994.

Sabah DAP said it didn’t have any issues regarding the use of a common logo, if all parties under the state Pakatan coalition agreed to it.

Elaborating on the matter, Shafie noted using a common logo was a sign of unity among the parties under the Warisan-led coalition.

“I think it is more important to show how we can be united and having one logo is an indicator,” he said during a press conference held after a groundbreaking ceremony at SM Advent Tamparuli yesterday.

Shafie also said that the use of a single logo would provide some added clarity to voters.
