Cherish Basic Law, says Lam
HK leader urges understanding of policies via video series
HONG KONG: The Basic Law of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) has provided Hong Kong residents with a better life and every resident should cherish the Basic Law as well as the “one country, two systems” policy, HKSAR chief executive Carrie Lam said in a video series.
To celebrate the 30th anniversary of the promulgation of the Basic Law and in order to enhance the public’s understanding of the Basic Law’s provisions, the China’s Constitutional and Mainland Affairs Bureau of the HKSAR government rolled out a video series that featured six themes, namely “The Origin of the Basic Law,” “Drafting and Consultation,” “Rights and Freedom,” “Rule of Law,” “International Financial Center” and “Looking Ahead.”
A spokesman from the bureau said the video series reviews the guidelines of the “one country, two systems” policy as well as the origin of the Basic Law, examines the safeguards in place for institutions under the law, and analyses the ways in which the Basic Law enables the HKSAR to preserve its strengths and maintain its prosperity and stability.
The series also explains how the law also enables HKSAR residents to enjoy a pleasant lifestyle.
Lam said in the video series that in retrospect, Hong Kong has successfully weathered some economic challenges, demonstrating that the Basic Law is feasible.
Lam stressed that Hong Kong is an inseparable part of the People’s Republic of China and that the HKSAR is directly under the central government.
Therefore, an understanding and of the relationship between Hong Kong an central authorities runs through the understanding and implementation of the Basic Law.
She hoped that all Hong Kong residents will work hard to ensure the implementation of “one country, two systems” in Hong Kong. — Xinhua
