Man held for insulting royal institution
KUALA LUMPUR: A 52-year-old man has been detained in connection with a seditious statement allegedly insulting the royal institution, Bukit Aman revealed.
CID director Comm Datuk Huzir Mohamed said the suspect was arrested in Cheras on Monday.
“The suspect allegedly questioned on Twitter a video which was uploaded on the National Security Council’s website regarding Wasiat Raja-Raja Melayu (Will of the Malay Rulers).
The suspect is expected to be remanded and the matter is being investigated under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act and Section 233 of the Communication and Multimedia Act 1998.
Comm Huzir said Bukit Aman CID’s Special Investigation Unit was also investigating three other cases allegedly insulting the Yang di-Pertuan Agong on social media.
“The alleged insults were posted on Facebook and Twitter,” Comm Huzir said.
He urged the people to abide by the principals of the Rukun Negara.
