Frustrated Potter praises fightback by West Brom

BRIGHTON: Brighton manager Graham Potter heaped praise on West Bromwich Albion’s resilience after the two sides fought out a 1-1 draw in their English Premier League clash although he was unhappy with the outcome.

West Brom’s Karlan Grant salvaged a point for the visitors with a thumping 83rd-minute strike as they dominated the second half after falling behind to a 40th-minute Jake Livermore own goal.

“Frustrated, certainly in the second half,”

Potter told BBC.

“We created some good chances in the first half and with a bit more luck we could have had a bigger lead than 1-0. Credit to West Brom, I think they responded well.

“They played better in the second half and pushed us back and they deserved their equaliser. We have to learn from that.

“We have to analyse why we were not so good in the second half, why our performance dipped a bit but now we have to give credit to the opposition for raising their performance.”

Having survived several scares before Brighton took the lead, West Brom were on the front foot after the break and twice came close before former Huddersfield Town striker Grant equalised with a superb finish.

West Brom boss Bilic singled out Grant and praised his team’s fighting spirit.

“If I had to pick one player to score it is him because he is our striker,” the Croatian said.

“He took his goal really well, he didn’t panic, he didn’t want to shoot just for the sake of shooting. He acted like a proper centre forward.

“That second half performance made me happy and made me proud. If it was 10 more minutes I had the feeling it was us who would score a second goal.”
