JAKARTA: Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin is here for a twoday official visit to Indonesia at the invitation of President Joko Widodo, popularly known as Jokowi.

Muhyiddin and his wife Puan Sri Noorainee Abdul Rahman were met on arrival yesterday afternoon at Halim Perdanakusuma International Airport by Indonesian Home Affairs Minister Tito Karnavian, Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein and Malaysian ambassador to Indonesia Datuk Zainal Abidin Bakar.

This is Muhyiddin’s first official visit to Indonesia after being appointed Prime Minister last March.

Recognising the importance of Malaysia-Indonesia bilateral ties and Covid-19 pandemic challenges, the Prime Minister himself had requested that the visit be a brief one with a small delegation.

Today, Muhyiddin will be accorded an official welcoming ceremony at Istana Merdeka here, and hold a four-eyed meeting with Jokowi before the two leaders host a joint press conference.

Muhyiddin is also scheduled to attend a state banquet hosted by the President.

The visit will provide a platform for the two leaders to further strengthen bilateral relations and cooperation between their countries.

Among the issues expected to be discussed are those related to palm oil discrimination, haze, potential investment and trade joint ventures, implementation of the Reciprocal Green Lane (RGL) and cooperation in addressing Covid-19. — Bernama
