The friendly neighbourhood wild boar

-

A WILD boar became a friendly face at a new village in Rembau, Negri Sembilan, after local residents started feeding it two years ago, Sin Chew Daily reported.

Even though wild boars are known to be a danger to humans, this one warmed up to people after local resident Li Yao Hua, 58, fed it leftovers.

It started visiting the village more often and the neighbours began feeding it sweets and rice.

According to another resident, the female boar had a penchant for sweets and would wag its tail when it saw her nine-year-old grandson in hopes that he would share his sweets.

The boar, weighing around 80kg, became so comfortable with people that it would allow itself to be petted.

Not only did it warm up to residents, it also befriended the dog belonging to Li.

Li added that he once saw the sow along with six other piglets. He hoped no one would harm them as the villagers consider them to be sentient animals.

> A chicken rice seller in Nilai, Negri Sembilan, found it hard to retain foreign workers, let alone locals, with a salary of RM2,000, Sin Chew Daily reported.

According to the hawker who was not named, when he put up signs offering RM2,000 a month to help man his stall, no one came for an interview apart from foreigners.

However, after being hired, none of them stayed long, which frustrated the seller as he had to train someone new once more.

Other hawker stalls nearby also reported that it was now harder to find help as many locals prefer to work in factories.

Wu Rong Sheng, who has been selling chicken rice there for the past eight years, admitted that the work was taxing on the body and not many were willing to take up such back-breaking tasks.

As he was unable to find help, Wu now opens his stall at noon rather than 9am, but admitted that he found that business was as good as before.

He also said that he hoped more Malaysians would be willing to take up work at hawker stalls as this would reduce the outflow of funds to other countries.
