MFL extend transfer deadline to March 5
PETALING JAYA: Teams are jumping for joy after the Malaysian Football League (MFL) extended the transfer window yet again.
It was supposed to end yesterday but MFL have pushed it until March 5, with FIFA’s approval.
MFL chief executive officer Datuk Ab Ghani Hassan hoped the news would give teams more time to assemble their players as the government had only allowed for football to restart on Feb 5.
“Teams have been facing issues with registering foreign and local players. They also needed more time to assess their squads since they had just returned to training,” said Ghani.
Some teams have not completed their roster while others have made last-minute changes to their foreign setup.
Johor Darul Ta’zim for instance, will now be able to release their new signing Johnathan Herrera to Argentina again – on loan to Independiente.
The club owner, Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim, revealed that the deal was too good to refuse.
“Bought US$800,000 (RM3.2mil). Offered to loan with the option to sell for US$1.3mil (RM5.2mil). This club need more money than silverware for now. It’s just business,” he posted on his official Instagram account.
Perak are looking to complete their foreign quota while Selangor are waiting to hire one more, with a source saying that he could be German midfielder Manuel Konrad.
Sabah are on the verge of signing of Gabonese international Levy Madinda, Liberian striker Sam Johnson and Macedonian centreback Risto Milevski.
Teams who have completed their squads are UiTM, Penang, Terengganu, Petaling Jaya City, Melaka, Kedah and Kuala Lumpur.
