Preparations well in hand
Malaysia’s top-ranked player looking forward to the new season
FIRST of all, I would like to say Happy Chinese New Year and greetings all the way from Batu Pahat in Johor.
It has really been very nice that I have been able to spend some quality time with my family and friends here.
As many of you know, the LPGA Tour season has started and while I am still here at home I have been preparing for the start of my 2021 campaign on Tour.
I am planning to leave Malaysia in early March and there is lot of protocol that needs to be followed as I attempt to head back to the Tour (in the United States), including things like my Travel Pass – making sure that I have all the necessary supporting documentation, Covid-19 testing, etc.
Initially, I will be flying into Orlando, Florida to spend a couple of weeks working with my coach Gary Gilchrist – making sure that my game is in a good place, or at least it is as best as possible.
I am looking forward to heading back and having what I hope will be a great 2021 season.
There are lots of big tournaments on the calendar this year, such as the Tokyo Olympic Games and I cannot wait to represent Malaysia at the world’s foremost sports competition.
As indicated in the last column, I had a good season last year, in fact, my best yet. And now as I prepare for 2021, I am hoping to do even better. My plan is improve overall as a player, and a person, and thanks go to all those who helped me achieve what I managed to accomplish last year.
I’ve been back in Malaysia for six weeks now and we have all been in MCO 2.0.
Besides this, I am proud that I was able to workout at home with a few other professional golfers via face-time (online).
We have been keeping each other motivated as we tend to get a little bit too comfortable sitting around at home. But I must say we have managed to keep ourselves entertained.
We also baked lots of traditional cookies, home-cooked food and played lots of mahjong. Of course, getting ang pow is exciting and for those who receive it, it is a favourite time of the celebrations.
Now that the golf courses have opened up again (Feb 12), we are truly grateful to be able to get out there again and play some golf.
I grew up playing at Bukit Banang Golf & Country Club and it was great to be able to play a few rounds with some members – some of them who watched me grow up over the years, playing there when I was a kid.
We reminisced a lot about those good old days when I would literally spend the whole day out there, from sunrise to sunset or when the driving range lights went out.
It has been fantastic. Something I really enjoyed and am thankful for. But now, my focus turns to the final preparations of my build-up to get back on Tour.
